Oakhurst First Prsebyterian Child Development Center has been providing quality child care in the Kanawha Valley since 1973. We are licensed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services for 115 children ages 1-12 years. We offer child care and preschool for ages 2 and 3 and the Kanawha County Schools Pre-Kindergarten program for 4 year-olds. All our programs offer students a wide array of activities from which to choose and encourage development of social skills, gross and fine motor skills, cognitive thinking, and leadership skills.
1-2 (Toddler)
The Toddler Room is the early learning stages. We start with everyday task such as sitting to eat, using utensil, and cleaning up behind themsleves. We also work on building language and social skills.
2- and 3-Year-Olds
For our 2- and 3-year-olds, we strive to provide a loving, nurturing environment in which children are guided through appropriate social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development.
Kanawha County Pre-K
Oakhurst First Presbyterian Child Development Center is a collaborative site of Kanawha County Schools Pre-K. To be eligible, children must turn 4 by July 1. Our West Virginia Pre-K program is designed to provide preschool experiences through developmentally appropriate practice.
Elementary (Schoolers)
After-school care provides engaging educational and physical activities, promoting self awareness and independence.
Summer Camp
Summer camp for children kindergarten through 12 years. We offer three weekly field trips a week exploring the areas around Charleston.
What To Bring
For younger children who still take a daily nap, please provide a blanket and pillow.
Please have your children leave all toys and other items (including electronics) at home. Personal items often interfere with our learning enviornment and can cause issues between children. In addition, these items can be easily lost or damaged.
Daily Schedule
Each class has their own daily schedule. Please contact your child's teacher for information. Breakfast begins each day at 8:30 a.m. and lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. If your child is arriving to the center late, please call ahead to have them included in the lunch count.
